Side Quest: Water Tribe Betrothal Necklaces from Avatar: The Last Airbender

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

This blog is an extension of my Youtube video showing how to make your own Water Tribe Betrothal Necklace from Avatar: the Last Airbender. I used foil to make them metallic.

I made these necklaces pendants on TinkerCad and printed them on a 3D Resin Printer.

Let's start making!

Tools Used:

Necklace Supplies

>Navy Ribbon - Bought through Joanns

>Necklace Clamps (When I original bought then, I bought this kit:

>Clasps

>Rings

>Needle Nosed Pliers (Purchased from Lowes) >Optional: Jewelry Ring Pliers (Purchased from Ring Lord)

Safety Supplies: >Dust Mask or Respirator >Nitrile Gloves (If you are allergic to latex, like me!) >Safety Glasses >Ear Protection

Resin Printer Supplies:

>Resin Printer Used: Anycubic Photon Resin Printer

>Clear Blue Water Washable Resin

>Pickle Container to rinse Resin

>UV Lamp

>Zona Papers

>500-600 Grit Sandpaper

THE STEPS

Step One: Print out Charms

I designed them in TinkerCad and then used Chitubox to support them. I wanted them to look like blue ice so I used water washable clear blue resin.

Step Two: Wash Print, UV Cure, and Sand For a While

Since this resin is water washable, you just wash it with water for 2 minutes, stick it under the UV station so it can be ready for Sanding. For sanding, I used 500 grit sand paper and then Zona papers. Zona Papers are the best and you should be using them.

Step Three: Assemble Necklace

I followed these steps with some success.

Steps:

  1. Attach clamps details to each side of the cut ribbon. Make sure to use lighter to stop fraying on each side of the end of the ribbon.

  2. Attach clasps and extra chains to the ends just in case.

  3. Cut small hole in polyester ribbon in the center and heat the opening with a lighter to stop it from fraying.

  4. With ring on Charm, feed through hole in ribbon and close ring.

DONE!
